Wellington heavy rock band Beastwars formed in 2008 and created a nationwide impact with their self titled debut album in 2011. This charted at number 15 on the Top 40 charts and was followed by Blood Becomes Fire (2013 - number 2 on Top 40 charts), The Death of All Things (2016 - number 5 on the charts) and their most recent album IV (2019 - number 1 on Top 40 charts). All 4 albums received extremely positive reviews, international media coverage and were finalists at the New Zealand music awards in the Best Rock category. Both the debut album and Blood Becomes Fire were finalists for the Taite Music Prize. Their most recent release Tyranny of Distance - an album of New Zealand covers featuring songs by Marlon Williams, Nadia Reid, The Gordons etc - entered the Top 40 charts at number 4.
In addition to this chart success the band has toured New Zealand and Australia countless times since 2011 playing sold out shows across both countries. They have earned international support slots with high profile acts of a similar genre such as Mastodon, Kyuss Lives, High on Fire, The Melvins and Red Fang and twice appeared at both Big Day Out and Homegrown.
