The Lahaar create a rich and diverse live show, high energy percussive dance floor tunes coupled with deep, meditative dub frequencies and sonic delights.
The Lahaar is a Trans tasman super group collaboration between Aotearoa based drummer percussionist and producer Julien dyne (Soundway records / Avantdale Bowling Club / The Circling Sun / Half Hexagon / Ladi 6 etc -) with Naarm residents Lachlan Stuckey (Surprise Chef) on guitar and Horatio Luna (30/70 / Jazzy House) on electric bass.
The Lahaar released their first self titled album in March 2023, released on legendary UK label Soundway on vinyl and digital formats.
The rhythm section was tracked live in Melbourne (pre global pandemic) with overdubs , arrangements and mixing handled later in Tāmaki Makaurau by Julien Dyne.
Adding to this foundation is he cream of vocal and instrumental talent from Aotearoa - Mara TK (EWH / Lord Echo) and Toby Laing (Fat Freddys Drop) on vocals, Scott Towers (Fat Freddys Drop) and JY Lee (Avantdale Bowling Club / Yoko Zuna) saxophones / flutes, plus Guy Harrison (Avantdale Bowling Club / Troy Kingi) on trumpet and electric keyboards.
Extra Special Spice was delivered by Cory Champion (Borrowed CS / Clear Path Ensemble) - vibraphone, and Wild Bill Ricketts (The Phoenix Foundation) - Conga and Vibraphone in Poneke, Wellington
Sonically the group draws inspiration from early New York proto rap instrumental 12”’s ( Doin’ It ), Nigeria boogie funk and disco ( Super / Kiki ), Jamaican Dub and Reggae (step 2 and Work Work Work) plus vintage movie and library records theme music (Chase scene part 1).
